Don’t Get Spooked this Halloween!10/22/2020 It Can Still Be Safe and Fun for All!As with so many things this year, celebrating a holiday like Halloween during a global pandemic can still be done. It just takes on a different look and feel to keep everyone safe. Accordingly, the CDC and DOH have recommended against classic door-to-door trick o treating, haunted houses or costume parties. To keep our Hawaiian Kajukenbo Association ghouls, goblins, sports stars, and superheroes from getting unnecessarily exposed to COVID-19, we have some fun activities to enjoy a spooktacular Halloween. COSTUME CONTEST Submit a picture wearing your costume. Prizes for Most original, scariest, prettiest, funniest *extra points for submitting a video of you doing a Kata while wearing your costume. See Student Only News to submit and see pictures of entries! PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST This is one tradition that’s as safe and fun for the entire family to enjoy. As always be careful to avoid carving injuries. Children can draw faces with markers. Then parents can do the carving. Save those seeds for a healthy snack. Submit pictures for prizes. See Student Only News to submit and see pictures of entries! SPOOKY MOVIE NIGHT
Celebrate with a movie night and dress as your favorite character. Do this as a family at home or consider letting your child watch with their friends while video chatting, with everyone starting the movie at the same time. CREATE HOLIDAY TREATS Decorate and bake cookies with toppings in the shape of a jack-o-lantern, for example or make ghosts using marshmallows and chocolate chips for faces. Make sure the treats are not choking hazards if you have children under age 3. REMEMBER Halloween during the COVID-19 pandemic is a chance for your ohana to get creative, and maybe even invent some new traditions for your family! It's also a great opportunity to model flexibility and a positive spirit. If you're excited and make it fun, your kids will have fun, too. More importantly, this is a good time to emphasize the importance of protecting not just ourselves but others, as well. The decisions we make on this one day can have a ripple effect beyond our own families. I imagine the last several weeks have been quite challenging for us all as we have had to adjust and navigate this rapidly changing COVID-19 environment. As a result of this unprecedented pandemic and in line with the guidance and recommendations provided by local health experts and government officials, Hawaiian Kajukenbo Association will extend the suspension of all classes until April 30, 2020. In the meantime, please continue to stay safe, stay healthy and stay home. Let's work together as a community to take care of our community. Aloha, Erika Ruiz covid-19 update3/17/2020 To our HKA Ohana,
As always, we remain focused on the safety, health and well-being of our entire Hawaiian Kajukenbo Association Ohana. In line with state and federal recommendations, and out of an abundance of concern for our instructors, students and their families, we are proceeding with the suspension of all Hawaiian Kajukenbo Association classes effective Wednesday, March 18 through Saturday, April 4. At this time, we anticipate classes will resume on Monday, April 6. However, in the event that circumstances warrant further suspension of classes, we will communicate that information as soon as possible. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and will provide updates as information is made available. Future updates will be posted here on our school website, www.hawaiiankajukenbo.com. In the interim, we encourage students to continue their training, at least 30 minutes a day. We encourage students to continue to utilize their HKA workbook as a training guide. In addition selected kata videos have been made available to all HKA members via the school website, student-only link. Mahalo nui loa for your continued support of Hawaiian Kajukenbo Association. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time. Sincerely yours, Erika C.
